About the role:
The insight team’s mission is to influence Tesco to make confident decisions because we understand Customers and Colleagues better than anyone. Our key priorities are setting the customer agenda, commercialising insight, business partnering internally and externally, storytelling and democratising insight.
We have 2 positions available, 1 in Competitor Intelligence, and the other in Market Performance.
Competitor Intelligence: Scanning the market to truly understand what our competitors are doing so we can have a view on their impact, and whether we need to react.
Market Performance: Answer the ‘who’, ‘what’ and ‘why’s’ in relation to performance. Responsible for the communication and reporting of Tesco’s market share performance to key stakeholders within the business.
In these roles you will utilise various data sources to help the business continue to provide customers the best offer across our business, identifying trends and changes in the market and understand the impact to Tesco.
You will be responsible for:
- Analysing data sets of multiple types (research, behavioural, panel, economic) to find insight about our customers, competitors and markets that we can act on.
- Identifying important changes and trends in the market and the opportunity and risk for Tesco and the Tesco group.
- Using expertise to produce accurate and actionable insight which develops and drives actions in support of our customer growth strategy within a fast-paced environment.
- Working on developing storytelling to translate analysis to business questions.
- Working closely with other colleagues across the Insight team (including Dunnhumby and EA) and with our data science team in Technology.
- Being an active participant in this community of best practice.
- Working with colleagues across the insight team to help support the development of future data, tools and capabilities being developed.
- On a project basis, ensuring these deliver against requirements, and are presented in a way to make the complex simple and land the key messages with impact.

You will need:
- Experience in combining different data sources to identify key issues and opportunities.
- Ability to work cross-functionally amongst key stakeholders across the business.
- Skilled in visualisation software e.g. Tableau and using agency data (IRI, Dunnhumby etc.).
- Experience and confidence in using Excel to an expert level.
- A self-starter that is curious and keen to learn new approaches and techniques.
