About the Scottish Human Rights Commission

The Scottish Human Rights Commission (SHRC) is an independent public body established to promote and protect human rights in Scotland. Our mission is to ensure that everyone in Scotland can enjoy their human rights, as enshrined in international law and domestic legislation.

We work closely with various stakeholders, including government bodies, civil society organizations, and the general public, to raise awareness of human rights issues and advocate for necessary reforms. Our core activities include:

  • Monitoring and Reporting: We monitor the implementation of human rights standards in Scotland and report on areas where improvements are needed.
  • Education and Awareness: We provide training and resources to help individuals and organizations understand their rights and responsibilities.
  • Policy Advocacy: We engage with policymakers to influence legislation and practices that affect human rights.
  • Support and Guidance: We offer support to individuals seeking to understand or assert their rights.

Our vision is a Scotland where human rights are respected, protected, and fulfilled for all. We believe that human rights are universal, indivisible, and interdependent, and we strive to create a culture of respect for these rights across all sectors of society.

Through our work, we aim to empower individuals and communities, ensuring that their voices are heard and their rights are upheld. The SHRC is committed to transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in all its operations, fostering a collaborative approach to human rights advocacy.
