Role Description
To lead the Legal and Compliance functions, acting as a custodian of the corporate assets and contributing to the group's growth and profitability through legal advice and assistance on both contentious and non-contentious matters. The role also includes acting as the Data Protection Officer.
Principal Responsibilities
- Leading legal support across the Princes Group, managing qualified and unqualified colleagues.
- Communicating and collaborating with all parts of the group both within the UK and internationally, engaging with stakeholders including suppliers, customers, regulators, insurers, and external legal counsel.
- Managing company secretarial support.
- Developing and implementing plans and process improvements to support company strategy and efficiency, including managing growing workloads.
- Negotiating, reviewing, drafting, and advising on commercial contracts and terms, including negotiations with various parties such as suppliers, customers, licensors, and regulators.
- Providing training in accordance with the Compliance Programme.
- Advising on legal issues across the Group, including supply issues or contractual disputes to achieve commercial resolutions.
- Supporting senior management on project-based and strategic work.
- Managing intellectual property assets.
- Handling litigation and regulatory issues.
- Performing the role of Group Compliance, managing compliance committee meetings, and advising on compliance issues.
- Serving as Data Protection Officer, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
Role Requirements
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead, train, and motivate a professional team.
- Qualifying Law Degree or equivalent, with a Graduate Diploma in Law if non-legal degree.
- Qualified Solicitor with at least 10 years post-qualification experience or equivalent.
- Experience in a public company environment or private practice.
- Knowledge of corporate transactions, civil and common law jurisdictions, regulatory issues, and multi-jurisdictional contracts.
- Experience managing litigation and capital expenditure contracts.
- Understanding of international trade, Inco terms, and border controls.
- Proficiency in drafting and negotiating various commercial contracts.
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to provide innovative legal solutions.
