British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a JUNIOR TOXICOLOGIST in Southampton What are the key objectives and expectations from this role? The purpose of the role is to direct and deliver toxicological ingredient and material evaluations in accordance with guidelines from the Product Stewardship Council (PSC), the R&D Policy Framework, Corporate Positions, and specific legislation for our product categories. To be an integral member of the team delivering innovations to market. Your Key Responsibilities Will Include To recommend and guide project teams on toxicology evaluations, tests, and design necessary for building data packages for product launches. Project manage the delivery of toxicological data for risk assessment, including conducting quantitative risk assessments and risk profiling, and authoring and delivering reports and presentations as needed. Articulate and drive program areas or tools that promote a common approach across categories, aiding efficiency in handling different ingredient types or methods (e.g., Naturals, Skin Sensitizers). Identify opportunities for new approaches and suggest procedural changes for approval. Apply solutions or approaches to identify and resolve problems based on biology, toxicology, or chemistry expertise. Manage project budgets, inform forecasts, and adhere to financial controls. Can this be your future role? Do you have knowledge of fundamental human health risk assessment approaches? Have you worked in FMCG companies previously? Do you have experience reading and critiquing scientific literature? What are we looking for? Experience Required Relevant science background with a degree in a related field, with a good understanding of Toxicology principles. Experience with toxicology test packages and risk assessment is preferred. Awareness of developments in toxicology and regulations related to tobacco and consumer goods. Positive attitude, drive to succeed, and flexibility to adapt to new tasks and priorities. Proficient in using databases, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Understanding of product regulations in tobacco, cosmetics, consumer goods, food, or pharmaceuticals, with basic knowledge of tobacco and nicotine products. Experience in applied science, risk assessment, or product stewardship. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to produce thorough risk assessments. Knowledge of tobacco emissions chemistry and good communication, organizational, and planning skills. Membership in a relevant professional body, such as the British Toxicology Society, is a plus.
