Role Overview: As an Interaction Designer, you will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams—including UX designers, front-end developers, researchers, and software engineers—to design services, products, and tools that align with user needs. You will lead the design process, focusing on user interactions to ensure intuitive, user-friendly interfaces for government services. This role will require security clearance (SC), and you must be capable of working within a secure environment while balancing user-centred design with stakeholder requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand User Journeys: Engage with research to understand user needs, behaviours, and pain points, ensuring design solutions are grounded in user insights.
  • Prototype Development: Create and iterate on prototypes to test, validate, and communicate design ideas, improving the product based on feedback.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work in an agile environment alongside developers, researchers, and other designers to translate concepts into effective user-centred designs.
  • Interaction Design: Lead efforts to design how users interact with the product, identifying areas for improvement and enhancement.
  • Typography and Affordance: Utilize typography, visual hierarchy, and affordance to improve usability and optimize the user experience.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with stakeholders across various levels, ensuring design decisions align with user needs and business goals, including support at senior departmental levels.
  • Continuous Improvement: Review and analyse existing designs and identify opportunities for enhancement and innovation within the product lifecycle.

Requirements:

  • Security Clearance: Must hold or be eligible for SC (Security Check) clearance.
  • Proven experience as an interaction designer, UX designer, or a similar role, preferably in a government or public sector environment.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing user-centred designs and prototypes, with a focus on user interaction and usability.
  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of user research methodologies and applying insights to improve designs.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and working within multidisciplinary teams.

Key Competencies:

  • Expertise in designing user interactions and flows, ensuring that digital services are easy to use and meet accessibility standards.
  • Ability to design and iterate on prototypes that communicate design ideas and meet user requirements.
  • Excellent understanding of typography, visual design, and how affordances guide user behaviour.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present ideas and negotiate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
