The Vehicle Maintenance Unit, which is part of the Fleet Services Department, is responsible for maintaining and repairing over 650 vehicles and 1,100 pieces of plant equipment. This essential function ensures that the council provides crucial services including refuse collection, school transport, and road gritting.
The council's fleet is highly diverse and includes:
- Small equipment, lawn mowers, tractors, and woodchippers
- Large commercial vehicles including crane lorries, tippers, and refuse collection trucks
- Specialist equipment including paving machines and road rollers
- Standard vehicles including panel vans and minibuses comprising half of the council's fleet.
Ideally you will:
- Have time served experience or possess a minimum NVQ Level 2 qualification
- Have strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Have good communication skills and be able to interact with clients and colleagues
- Have basic IT skills to enable you to use diagnostic tools and software.
