About the Role

Connex Education is working in partnership with a well-established and forward-thinking secondary school in the Enfield area to recruit a committed and inspiring Deputy Head of Science to join their leadership team from September 2025. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced science teacher with strong leadership qualities who is ready to take the next step in their career. The role involves supporting the Head of Department in leading and managing a dynamic and diverse Science department, raising attainment and developing innovative teaching practices across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Department in leading the Science curriculum, including planning, assessment, and curriculum development
  • Contribute to improving standards of teaching and learning across the department
  • Provide mentoring and support to colleagues, including ECTs and support staff
  • Monitor and track student progress, implementing interventions to raise attainment
  • Lead by example in delivering high-quality, engaging science lessons
  • Contribute to whole-school initiatives, CPD, and academic development

Assignment Details

  • Full-time position, Monday to Friday (Term time only)
  • Start date: September 2025
  • Long-term / Permanent Post

Person Specification

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
  • Experience teaching Science to GCSE level (A-level desirable)
  • Previous experience of middle leadership or departmental responsibility
  • Strong classroom practitioner with high expectations
  • Passion for science education and driving student progress
  • A current DBS on the update service or willingness to apply through Connex
