The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs over 12,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army.

This role sits in the Through Life Support (TLS) Equipment Department Field Army, we provide equipment disposal support to All Front-Line Commands for Land Managed Capabilities across the TLS portfolios. The successful candidate will be working direct to the Higher Executive Officer Equipment Manager and working collaboratively alongside civilian and military staff across the TLS Team Equipment portfolios in disposing of their equipment across All Front-Line Commands and Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) for Equipment's held in the UK and Overseas organisations.

Job Description

You will provide direct support to the TLS Higher Executive Officer Equipment Manager for all aspects of Equipment Management, including MoD Disposals and data cleansing using the current Fleet Management tool JAMES and other Management Information System (MIS) tools. To cover the Equipment Management function against Eqpt Portfolios as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide Equipment Management support as directed by the Higher Executive Officer TLS Equipment Manager.
  • Provide Equipment Management support for all MOD vehicles & associated eqpt for disposal.
  • Processing the JAMES Equipment Sentencing Decision Referrals (ESDRs) in conjunction with the FdArmy HQ TLS desk officers and the DE&S Project Teams, updating the ESDRs, informing the Front-Line Commands of the decisions and the actions to take in accordance with JAMES Standing Operating Procedure (SOP) 39.
  • Monitoring and progressing ESDRs through to final completion.
  • To provide Equipment Management support of all Static Training Aids (STAs), approvals / rejections & recording on the STA register in accordance with ACSO 4532.
  • Updating JAMES in accordance with JAMES SOP 39.
  • To conduct data integrity checks, identify and report improvements on JAMES in conjunction with TLS desk officers, DE&S desk officers and the JAMES Team Warminster.
  • Removing erroneous data entries as required.
  • To attend stakeholder meetings as required.
  • To provide Equipment Management information and advice to all key stakeholders.
  • To provide Equipment Management support to D TLS Equipment Managers as required.
  • On the job training for the MIS systems will be given.
  • Adopt a customer focused approach, implementing the Disposal Activity process.

Person specification

Essential Skills Required:

  • A good basic working knowledge and understanding of Microsoft applications, including excel for recording, transacting, simplification of data manipulation and reporting.
  • Keen attention to detail and proof-reading skills.
  • Good engagement skills including experience of demonstrating the ability to develop excellent working relationships with a diverse range of partners within different organisations, ensuring that disposal activity targets are delivered.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and confidently with a broad range of people using a variety of styles, both written and verbal.
  • Able to work independently, as well as part of a wider team.
  • Self-motivated & Methodical.
  • Must be keen to improve knowledge base of management information tools and identification of improvements seeking enhancements for all partners.

Desirable Skills:

  • Working knowledge / understanding of JAMES. JAMES online training will be available as this is required to undertake the duties of the Disposals Equipment Management role.
