As a Health and safety Apprentice, you’ll be given an in-depth insight into health and safety within the construction industry from day one. You will gain hands-on industry experience, and the knowledge required to achieve a nationally recognised qualification. You’ll be inspired and stretched professionally, but fully supported by an expert network of colleagues, as you work to build the foundations for a career within health and safety in construction industry. This is an internal apprenticeship within Irwin M&E and it is anticipated to last 2 years. After this time the individual will undertake a recognised qualification in health and safety. This coupled with the experience gained during the role will give rise to an experienced SHEQ officer within the construction sector.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Assisting the H&S team in the completion of daily, weekly, and monthly paperwork and administration of the IMS system or as requested by SHEQ manager/team.

  • Maintaining and managing SHEQ control system.

  • Assisting the H&S team to develop and review all documents comprising of Health and Safety management systems and regularly audit their implementation.

  • Assisting the H&S team in developing new policies, systems of work and method statements

  • Assisting H&S team in ensuring all company compliances are adhered to.

  • Maintaining accurate records, analyse relevant Health and Safety data and compile reports in relation to company objectives and key performance indicators.

  • Review of Site Safety Audits from both the H&S and site management teams. Collate and maintaining information and the Audit matrix to a high standard as well as documenting any no-conformances and update corrective actions .

  • Encouraging the reporting of hazards and incidents/accidents.

  • Attending internal Health and Safety meetings with SHEQ team.

  • Assist the SHEQ team in carrying out site inspections and hazard identification.

  • Any other duties as assigned.

  • Taking reasonable care of yourself and any other person who may be affected by your actions and omissions.

  • Adopting a positive attitude, cooperate, and assist the company in all aspects of Health and Safety, and the Environment.

  • Understanding and help to implement all relevant health and safety policies and arrangements based upon the policies., * Ongoing training and development opportunities with a personalised training plan to allow career development to a Mechanical Contracts Manager

Requirements

  • 5 GCSE with Maths and English

  • Eager to develop competency and qualifications in HSE.

  • Able to demonstrate effective communication skills.

  • Good understanding of Office computer applications

  • Have ability to present and deliver information to others at all levels

  • Flexible approach to change

  • Cross functional interaction

  • Coaching Skills

  • Ability and drive to complete Nebosh qualification .

  • Full clean driving license (desired)

  • Able to travel to other locations with occasional overnight stays or providing team cover. (desired)

Status of post: Full-Time Permanent

Salary: Remuneration Package will be competitive and in line with experience

Location: This role will be based in Portadown, with occasional travel to mainland UK, with regular travel to sites in NI and ROI.
