Following its recent acquisition by SLR, Wardell Armstrong now forms part of a leading global environmental and sustainability consultancy working on projects across the world from over 100 offices. Due to continued success in delivering ecology/environmental oversight to construction projects, we are looking to appoint experienced site/construction-based ecologists.

The joining of SLR and Wardell Armstrong brings together a team of approximately 200 ecologists distributed across the UK and Ireland. The ecology team works alongside several other environmental professionals within the Firm, including planners, archaeologists, arboriculturists, landscape architects, and engineers.

The role

The role is open to individuals seeking 6-month, 12-month, or permanent contracts to work in the wind, rail, or nuclear sectors. Successful applicants should expect to stay away from home for an average of four nights a week, sometimes including Sunday nights.

In this role, you will:

  • Be an integral member of our client’s delivery teams on major infrastructure projects;
  • Work alongside ecologists and engineers;
  • Be responsible for ecology data collection;
  • Design and implement ecology mitigation measures (e.g., management plans, non-licensed and licensed method statements);
  • Deliver pragmatic and timely solutions to ecological constraints;
  • Procure and engage with subcontractors.

About you

  • Hold a degree in ecology or a related discipline;
  • Possess a white CSCS card;
  • Have at least 12 months of relevant experience;
  • Hold or be working towards ‘qualifying member’ status or higher of CIEEM;
  • Be flexible and willing to develop new ecology field skills, including during unsocial hours and when working away from home (expenses paid);
  • Be willing to work away from home 3-4 nights a week in paid-for hotels or self-catering accommodation;
  • Work effectively as part of a team;
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
