We are currently recruiting for a dedicated Commissioning Technician to join our train facility in Newton Aycliffe. In this exciting role, the successful candidate will undertake test & commissioning, corrective and preventative maintenance, servicing and repair of rolling stock assets. You will work on contract with TXM at Hitachi, the contract is currently to Nov 2025 (may be extended).

Standard hourly rate £32.13 Umbrella or £23.46 PAYE (Overtime rates are paid at time and half and double time). Monday to Friday standard 7am - 3pm (other hours and shifts may be required which will be discussed at interview).

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Carry out dynamic testing for several test trains before their release into service.
  • Complete complex tasks such as troubleshooting, testing, quality control, tuning and repairs.
  • Complete test reports, internal adjustments, and pending job information accurately.
  • Verify the electrical & mechanical systems installation, and integrity.
  • Perform maintenance and fault rectification tasks on the train borne test equipment as necessary in accordance with procedures.
  • Report test data to relevant stakeholders.
  • Liaise with relevant systems experts in Engineering to progress commissioning and type testing issues.
The Candidate:

The ideal candidate must have experience with Rolling Stock Test & Commissioning. Flexibility is an absolute must; this position will entail travel (expensed) and will have a varying shift pattern to meet the project needs. You will be a team player, who can quickly develop strong working relationships with colleagues, but also self-motivated and able to take ownership and responsibility of your own work. This is a highly pressured environment that would suit someone who is able to stay positive and calm in difficult and stressful situations.

Essentials:
  • Relevant experience in rolling stock test & commissioning.
  • Knowledge & experience in TCMS, OTMR data downloading, Pneumatics and Rolling Stock Brake Systems, Computer Networks, Automatons and Distributed Input / Output systems.
  • Experience using measuring instruments such as multimeters, recorders, etc.
  • Able to write detailed test reports.
  • Flexible, and able to adapt to changing circumstances, and provide solutions in a climate of continuous improvement.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
