Main purpose of this role

As an optometrist with Leightons, you will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional eye care services that cater to the unique needs of each patient. Our optometrists are integral to our mission of improving lives through better sight and hearing, upholding the highest standards of professionalism, and fostering a collaborative and supportive practice environment.

This role is for a qualified and experienced optometrist who is adaptable and able to provide clinical cover across various locations within the Leightons estate. The postholder should have an interest in adopting new technologies and methods, support recruitment and onboarding, and be a strong team player who maintains professional relationships with branch teams and healthcare stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide sight tests and eye examinations to patients and customers.
  • Deliver clinical services including routine and emergency eye care, paediatric eye care, image or scan interpretation, and monitoring of conditions such as glaucoma or retinal issues, as well as dry eye and myopia management.
  • Provide optical appliances including spectacles, sunglasses, safety eyewear, low vision aids, and contact lenses.
  • Tailor recommendations to meet individual patient needs, preferences, and risk factors.

Professionalism and Governance

  • Adhere to GOC standards of practice and contractual NHS enhanced services or co-management agreements.
  • Maintain all equipment in good condition and keep detailed, contemporaneous records.
  • Follow infection prevention protocols and ensure the consulting rooms are clean and organized.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance, punctuality, and respect for company property.
  • Work in a mobile capacity across multiple locations, providing clinics as needed.
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and training activities, including providing induction for new staff and taster days for candidates.
  • Communicate regularly with the Head of Clinical Services regarding service variations.

Leadership and Accountability

  • Collaborate with the team to meet shared goals and monitor performance through KPIs.
  • Manage stock levels for diagnostic contact lenses, solutions, supplements, and ocular drugs.
  • Support training of staff in diagnostic and screening procedures.
  • Utilize software for record keeping and product ordering.
  • Assist in supervising, coaching, and training team members as required.

Communication

  • Maximize opportunities to recommend products and services that improve patients’ vision, hearing, and wellbeing.
  • Help track and improve branch performance through strategic initiatives.
  • Operate in compliance with company policies, procedures, and legislation.
