The role is within the estates team at Lochore Meadows Country Park and involves outdoor work in all weather conditions within a countryside environment. The apprentice will assist with general maintenance duties aligned with the park's aims and ethos. The apprenticeship lasts for 2 years, during which the apprentice will undertake training and work towards an SVQ2 in Environmental Conservation. Support will be provided by the Employability Officer, who will also liaise between the apprentice, Park Manager, and the training provider.

The apprentice must meet milestones related to the SVQ2 qualification, as outlined in an individual Training Plan. Failure to meet these may result in termination of the apprenticeship.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with path maintenance
  • Litter picking
  • Habitat management across woodland, grassland, and wetland areas
  • Maintaining facilities for public access and recreation

This opportunity is part of Fife Council's commitment to youth employment and training, funded through the Workforce Youth Investment programme. It is restricted to applicants aged 16-24 who reside in Fife. Further opportunities will be advertised via the council's recruitment site.

The Person

  • Minimum of 3 National 4s including English and Maths, or equivalent Core Skills at SCQF Level 4.
  • A passion for working outdoors and the environment, with examples of this passion.
  • Good communication skills for interacting with the public and colleagues.
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently.
  • Some basic maintenance experience would be advantageous.
  • Ability to follow instructions, stay calm under pressure, and handle confrontation.
  • Initiative and self-motivation are essential.
  • Customer-focused with a positive attitude.

Additional Requirements

Before starting, the successful candidate must obtain PVG scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and join the relevant PVG scheme.
