Works Manager – This opportunity is working across 2 recently purchased, established and now revitalised precision engineering businesses. The machine shop / Works manager will split his time across the 2 businesses ensuring production is kept and track at both locations and plays a key part in the redevelopment and expansion of both companies. Position Overview As the Machine Shop Manager, you will oversee all aspects of our machine shop operations. You will be responsible for leading the skilled teams, ensuring production efficiency, maintaining quality standards, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. Your leadership and expertise will be crucial in optimising workflow, managing resources, and driving process improvements. Key Responsibilities Manage day-to-day operations of the machine shop, including planning, organising, and directing production activities to achieve targets. Assist in the implementation of the new ERP system Supervise and mentor a team of machinists and technicians, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment. Ensure all products are manufactured in accordance with engineering specifications and quality standards. Develop and implement production schedules, optimising resource allocation and minimising downtime. Monitor equipment performance and implement maintenance programs to maximise operational efficiency. Collaborate with the engineering team to develop and refine manufacturing processes. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce waste. Enforce safety protocols and promote a culture of workplace safety. Manage budgetary and financial aspects of the machine shop, ensuring cost-effective operations. Required Skills And Qualifications Proven experience as a Machine Shop Manager or in a similar managerial role within a manufacturing environment. Previous experience of ERP systems (ideally implementation) Strong knowledge of machining processes, tools, and equipment. Exceptional leadership and team management skills. Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications. Excellent problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Strong understanding of quality control processes and standards. Experience with implementing Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles is a plus.
