NY Highways provides highways services across North Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. From road maintenance, street lighting and snow clearance to road signs and pavement repairs, we operate in close partnership with North Yorkshire Council. Now we are looking for an enthusiastic HGV Technician to join our team in Skipton.

NY Highways helps to keep North Yorkshire moving and you will be playing a key role in this; helping service the repair of our fleet of 240 vehicles and equipment as well as the 96 North Yorkshire Council IPT buses and community mini buses we maintain.

From your previous work in a similar Technician role, you will help us to deliver the best service to North Yorkshire. We are looking for someone who has experience of working as an HGV Technician within the private or public sector or possibly for HM Forces. With no two days the same, you will work both as part of a team but also use your own initiative to carry out various aspects of vehicle maintenance, MOT preparation, fabrication, brake testing and scheduled servicing, all done using the latest technology.

For this role you will have:

  • Class C HGV driving license
  • City & Guilds, NVQ or BTEC in HGV vehicle maintenance
  • A knowledge of diagnostics across different brands and the use of diagnostic equipment
  • Ability to work unsupervised with the flexibility to undertake a wide range of tasks
  • Ability to communicate and work well with other colleagues

We are looking to lead the way in Highways innovation whilst developing and rewarding our workforce. With the responsibility of a network of roads that stretch for almost 5800 miles and a team of around 250 experienced professionals, there isn’t much NY Highways doesn’t know about highway maintenance. Our aims are supported by our staff who have years of industry experience and knowledge.

At NY Highways, 'who you are' matters. If you share our values and are proud of a job well done, if you pride yourself on working well with others and are ambitious to make things better, we want to get to know you.

Since launching in 2021, NYH has invested in its people and its technology – from promoting staff and training the next generation of Operatives, Mechanics and Surveyors via apprenticeships to adopting the latest technology.

What we can offer you:

We are pleased to offer a competitive starting salary from £32,863 per year, plus a market supplement of £3,000 p.a., a tool allowance of £427 p.a. and standby payments of £3,752 p.a. We also offer good working conditions from our Northallerton depot, a company pension scheme, at least 24 days holiday + Bank Holidays (accumulating an additional day each year up to 5 years), cycle to work scheme, child care vouchers, a good maternity leave package and other retail and hospitality discounts are available to access.
