Our city centre-based office supports 17 services across Leicestershire which support adults with mental health needs and learning disabilities to promote independent living. Sessions take place once a week, flexible on dates and times between Monday to Friday.

We are looking for creative volunteers to set up and lead weekly activity sessions both within our friendly office based in Leicester city centre near the train station or out in the community doing exciting new activities. As part of your volunteer role, you will take the lead on the group and will plan the sessions, making sure that the activities are inclusive for all our service users and delivered in a fun and engaging way.

You will also ensure that service users are included in deciding the types of activities they would like to explore, and will plan and prepare for the sessions in advance to make sure that the materials and equipment are ready for each session. The sessions could include board games, arts and crafts, bingo, walking groups, afternoon tea, darts, bowling, etc. You will reach out to our Leicestershire services to promote the activities including times and dates, and encourage people to attend. You will also ensure that the materials are tidied away and the space is left clean and tidy at the end of each session. This role is a great way to gain experience in a group facilitation role.

As a volunteer with Creative Support, we offer training for your role, access to a volunteer supervisor, an induction, a monthly volunteer newsletter, and an online volunteer support network group on Zoom.

Volunteer Duties:

  • Setting up for the session, moving tables and chairs if necessary.
  • Planning, organising and preparing activities for each session in advance.
  • Promoting the sessions to service users and encouraging attendance.
  • Helping people to learn new crafts and enjoy new activities.
  • Making refreshments.
  • Clearing away at the end of the session.
  • Attending regular supervisions with your Volunteer Supervisor.
