The post holder has responsibility for the provision of competent professional nursing care and specialist practice in Dermatology, to meet with individual needs of the designated patient population.

The post holder will be accountable for the delivery of such care to a specific group of patients, and take charge of the ward/department on a regular basis. The post holder will be encouraged to organise own time and that of junior staff, delegating to junior staff and learners, and participating in teaching and education programmes for staff and patients.

The post holder should be competent at carrying out consultations face to face or remotely via video or telephone technology. Additionally, the post holder will be competent at independently carrying out treatment for patients with inflammatory skin conditions such as phototherapy and patch testing. The post holder will also be expected to work in a supporting role with our ANP and Pharmacist monitoring of patients on systemic treatments, e.g., isotretinoin for acne.

  • To be knowledgeable in post-op wound management.
  • Assessment of patients using appropriate Dermatology assessment tools.
  • Act as team leader/Primary Nurse managing a team of nurses in the delivery of care.
  • Supports the appraisal and personal development plans for junior staff.
  • Supports the effective use of resources and maintain adequate stock level.
  • Assist the ward manager and deputy in recruitment and selection of nursing staff.
  • Participate in staff induction and orientation to the ward, undertaking the preceptorship role.
  • Supporting the Tele-dermatology, MOHs Surgery, phototherapy and patch testing.
  • To liaise with other hospitals within the Trust staff to promote and maintain effective working relationships, ensuring high standards of care and service.
  • Developing and maintaining strong dermatology networks with South West London group of Dermatology, BDNG and other partners to develop clinical competency and raise clinical standards in accordance with trust policies and national guidelines.
  • Rostering and management of sickness and absence and other HR policies along with senior nursing colleagues.
  • Participate and assist in setting standards of patient care based on research findings.
  • Act as a Link nurse for an area of practice with responsibility for sharing information relating to changes.
  • Participate and assist in systematic monitoring and evaluation of nursing practice.
