Assistant Tree Officer (Part Time)

Assistant Tree Officer (Part Time)

Chichester Part-Time 24000 - 36000 £ / year (est.) No home office possible

This exciting new role provides an excellent introduction to the work of a Tree Officer within local government. As an Assistant Officer within our Planning Service you will support the Council’s Tree Officer with applications for works to protected trees, requests for tree preservation orders across the District and helping customers with their queries.

The role would suit someone who wants to start a career in arboriculture, or an experienced arborist/tree surgeon who wishes to make the move into a local government role. The successful candidate will be provided with practical ‘on the job’ training by the Council’s Tree Officer, supplemented with formal training specific to trees and their management depending on the need of the successful candidate.

We have over 1500 Tree Preservation Orders covering a variety of species within the coastal areas and into the South Downs. There are a large number of trees that we control within our 86 Conservation Areas to help sustain the sylvan character within the more historic parts of the District and South Downs. This means the work is varied and we are always busy! The role is office based, but there will be plenty of time spent out of the office visiting trees and meeting customers.

If you are a good team player with a desire to learn and you have good communication, customer skills, and a passion for trees we would like to hear from you.

To discuss the opportunities on offer contact: Owen Broadway (Conservation and Design Manager) on 01243 534557.
