We’re looking for a senior-level Digital Forensic Consultant to support complex civil and commercial litigation matters involving IT and digital evidence. This is a freelance, project-based opportunity for a highly experienced practitioner who can lead technical investigations and produce court-grade reports with minimal direction.
You’ll collaborate with legal teams, private clients, and expert advisors in cases related to intellectual property disputes, data breaches, insider misconduct, and contract-related digital investigations.
About the Role
This is not a junior or advisory support role — we’re seeking someone who:
- Has deep technical expertise in digital forensics;
- Can work independently and to a high evidentiary standard;
- Is able to produce clear, well-structured forensic reports that stand up in court.
While prior expert witness or testimony experience is a bonus, it is not required — but you must be confident working to that professional standard in the context of civil and commercial proceedings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead forensic investigations into data handling, access, and digital activity across devices, systems, and cloud environments.
- Recover, preserve, and analyse digital evidence in line with civil litigation protocols.
- Produce forensic reports and affidavits suitable for expert review, disclosure, or submission.
- Work alongside legal teams to advise on timelines, activity logs, file manipulation, and chain of custody.
- Support search strategy and relevance filtering in eDiscovery or disclosure exercises.
- Maintain integrity of digital evidence through every phase of the process.
Your Background
- 8+ years’ experience in digital forensics, cyber investigations, or related fields.
- Advanced proficiency in tools like EnCase, FTK, X-Ways, Magnet AXIOM, Cellebrite, etc.
- Strong working knowledge of Windows, MacOS, mobile devices, file systems, and log interpretation.
- Clear, objective, and defensible technical writing skills.
- Demonstrated experience working on or around civil or commercial litigation.
- Able to operate independently and responsibly on high-trust, sensitive matters.
Preferred (Not Required)
- Prior experience as an expert witness or producing affidavits or declarations.
- Exposure to UK, EU, or common law legal systems in a litigation context.
- Certifications such as GCFA, EnCE, CFCE, CCE, CHFI.
- Familiarity with IP, data privacy, or contractual disputes.
Why Work With Us
- Work on meaningful, high-value legal matters — not generic advisory work.
- Sporadic, project-based engagements with flexible hours and full remote support.
- Join a high-trust, expert-led consulting environment.
- Fair rates for top-tier professionals with no bureaucracy.
