This is a fantastic way to learn more about canals and whatโs involved in keeping them alive.
We are looking for friendly faces to come along to the World Heritage Site to assist the Canal and River Trust with keeping the canal area an open access for all site and a litter free place for locals, families and Tourists to enjoy. On your regular walks along the towpath you\\\โll be required to welcome early visitors to the site while collecting any litter you come across, you\\\โll also be required to report any defects or incidents to your task manager and help open-up the visitor centre. All equipment will be provided by Canal & River Trust.
This opportunity would suit someone with a couple of hours to spare one morning a week (8.30am โ 10am), although you can dedicate more time if you choose to. We would welcome interest from couples as well as individuals.
Why we want you
As a Waterway Ranger you\\\โll be the face, eyes and ears of the Trust. Having a regular friendly presence on the towpath means a lot for visitors and supporters and goes a long way to us caring for and sustaining our fantastic network for future generations. we need your support to be there for our customers. You\\\โll be assisting our visitor experience at some of our most beautiful sites, as well as possibly working in our more remote and niche environments, learning more about our waterways. Your support to help maintain our network will help us achieve our goal to keep canals alive.
What you will be doing
- Talking to customers
- Reporting issues from the Towpath
- Helping Customers
- When you register as a volunteer, we will ask you about any unspent convictions which you need to declare and risk assess these as needs be.
The skills you need
- Great communication skills. This is all about talking to people.
- Practical skills โ itโs also about minor maintenance to ensure that your locks are functional.
- Teamworking skills โ whilst you may spend some of your time alone, fundamentally youโre part of a team.
