The company Smithers MSE Limited is a leading provider in technical and consulting services to businesses throughout the packaging and paper supply chains.

Due to expansion, a new opportunity has arisen within our Distribution Testing department for a Laboratory Technician who wants to develop their skills within a well-established and successful team!

We test packaged medical, food/beverage and electronic products to make sure they are fit for purpose of distribution, and get to market launch in the quickest possible time. Our Distribution Testing department also supports clients by testing packaged products to help reduce waste and create a more sustainable future.

You will be fully trained to carry out a range of physical tests relating to packaging performance, and work within a fast-paced environment supporting the continuous work flow of the department. If you enjoy problem solving, being hands on and have a passion for the physical sciences, this role would be ideal for you.

You will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out multiple physical test programmes and providing high quality data on time.
  • Inspection of products for damage.
  • Extensive use of Excel and Word to generate test documentation.
  • Contributing towards the efficient organisation of equipment and resources.

The successful candidate will:

  • Need to be a strong team player, have a methodical approach and have the ability to plan, organise and manage their own workload.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be computer literate – particularly in Excel and Word.
  • Ideally have an aptitude towards science and testing and enjoy a mixture of desk and laboratory based work.
  • Ideally have a minimum of A-level/BTEC HNC in a scientific/engineering subject, or a good technical/quality control/engineering background. A-levels in Maths or Physics would be advantageous.
