Summary

Can you help us run nature and wildlife inspired creative activities to help people with dementia get active outdoors? Opportunities on a Mon, Tues, and Wed.

Detailed Description

Our Wild Memories groups provide opportunities for people living with dementia to get active outdoors. This has proven health benefits, including specific positive impacts on the symptoms of dementia.

We are always looking for volunteers:

  • Monday afternoon (Mells Walled Garden, 2-4pm)
  • Tuesday morning (Frome, 11-1pm)
  • Wednesday afternoon (Frome, 2-4pm)

Typical activities include gardening, nature conservation, seasonal arts and crafts, tea drinking, biscuit munching, seed planting, willow weaving, clay modelling, felt making, foraging, outdoor cooking, bird watching, song listening, silly games, poetry, painting, drawing, nature walks, meditation, woodwork, and anything else we can think of!

Volunteers can bring their own ideas as well; we can get the materials through the project.

Volunteers gain experience in delivering sessions, supporting people, community engagement, and nature conservation. We will discuss what you specifically wish to get out of your volunteering experience.

What We Will Provide to Volunteers

Locations can vary depending on the activity and season! Our Green Pathways for Life project aims to enhance the lives of people living with dementia, using conservation and wildlife activities to boost confidence, transferable skills, and emotional, social, and physical wellbeing. The project also aims to deliver real benefits to local green spaces and habitats, collaborating with local organisations to link in with nature conservation activities across the Frome area.

The project focus is on engaging with people with dementia living at home, with mild to moderate dementia or memory loss symptoms. We also encourage anyone supporting these individuals to attend our sessions, to enable people with dementia to attend our activity sessions safely, and to support the wellbeing of informal caregivers.
