Payroll Manager Job Overview
  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for multiple clients across various industries.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of fortnightly and monthly payrolls.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and current payroll legislation.
  • Manage payroll elements such as starters, leavers, holiday pay, pension deductions, and statutory payments (SMP, SPP, SAP, SSP).
  • Prepare and submit RTI submissions, P45s, P60s, and year-end reports.
  • Oversee pension auto-enrolment duties and liaise with pension providers.
  • Respond to payroll queries from clients and resolve discrepancies effectively.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and update internal systems.
  • Manage set up and closure of PAYE schemes.
  • Liaise with the accountancy team and external bodies, including HMRC.
  • Keep up to date with changes in payroll legislation and best practices.
  • Record time accurately on timesheets.
Payroll Manager Job Requirements
  • Proven experience in payroll management, ideally within an accountancy practice.
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and compliance.
  • Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., Sage Payroll, Xero).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Strong communication and client management abilities, including intermediate proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • CIPP qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • Able to commute to Baldock.
  • No requirement for visa sponsorship.
Payroll Manager Salary & Benefits
  • Competitive salary range, from £40,000 to £45,000 (depending on experience).
