Post Ref: CC430
Please note: Internal at risk or redeployee applicants will be seen in the first instance.
We are recruiting for a new team member to be part of the Sweeping and Street Cleaning service.
The Green Spaces and Street Scene Service is responsible for maintaining the beautiful borough of Calderdale. This includes looking after our parks and open spaces, play areas, highways, countryside and forestry, and ensuring that the streets are kept clear of litter, public litter bins are emptied, and fly tipping is removed.
We are looking for an experienced driver to join our service and be part of the sweeping and street cleaning team. You will drive a mechanical sweeper to clean footpaths and road channels and be responsible for keeping the streets throughout Calderdale clear of litter and detritus. This is a specialist role using complex machinery and so it requires drivers to hold and maintain a category C1 Licence.
You will also carry out manual street cleaning tasks such as litter picking and emptying public litter bins safely and in line with service requirements. You will be expected to manage your own workload and designated routes and be able to demonstrate strong organisational and interpersonal skills. You should be competent in working in an outdoor environment and have a full understanding of all Road Traffic and Highways Regulations.
We offer;
- A full training and support package
- CPC Driver qualification
- Use of a work vehicle as required
- Essential PPE (uniform, hi vis jacket, boots, gloves)
- All equipment required to carry out the role
- Generous pension scheme
- 27 days annual leave, increasing to 32 days after 5 years continuous
- Local Government service (pro-rata for part time staff) plus 8 statutory holidays.
This is a Calderdale wide role and so it is essential that you have a flexible approach. You will be expected to work outside of core hours including weekends and on standby for which you will receive enhanced pay.
If you have experience in this type of role and have knowledge of safe working practices, then we would welcome your application.
For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Tim Dunsheath on 07932 101405, email
Closing Date: 5th June 2025
Interviews: 17th June 2025
