The apprentices will work as part of an established engineering team focused on operating & maintaining critical essential and non-essential systems. The apprentice will work across the following scopes:

  • Attendance at an external apprentice training venue once a week.
  • Maintain, improve, and repair mechanical and/or electrical systems & assets.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to undertake fault-finding exercises across engineering systems & assets.
  • Undertake surveys and investigations under supervision.
  • Complete quarterly training reports.
  • Deliver technical presentations on set topics quarterly.
  • Undertake health & safety training to IOSH – Operating Safely.
  • Maintain continuity of work and information sharing among colleagues.
  • Attend original equipment manufacturer system training as scheduled.
  • Complete Level 3 City & Guilds training in Electrical or Mechanical apprenticeship.

During your apprenticeship, you will have opportunities to collaborate with trained personnel across most of the plant listed above. The extent of your hands-on experience depends on your competency level. You will be managed by a Team Leader and mentored by a Senior Technician, depending on your site. The relevant teams will support your training to ensure it meets your personal needs, provides necessary skills, and complies with national standards. They will also support you through challenging times.

The standard working hours are 08:00 - 16:00, totaling 35 hours per week, including one day per week attending college. Note that the training provider is based in Dagenham. In years 1 & 3, you will be based in Debden for four days and Dagenham for one day each week; in years 2 & 4, you will be based in Threadneedle Street for four days and Dagenham for one day.

Person Specification – Apprentice Technician

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (old grade C) or above, including English, Mathematics, and one Science.
  • Demonstrate commitment and awareness of responsibilities to yourself and the company.
  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently, using initiative.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with a mentor and assist in daily activities.
  • Recognize that apprenticeships can be demanding but rewarding.
