We are seeking to recruit multiple Academic Advisor I positions to conduct individual and group student academic advisement, to assist departments/units with verbal or written academic plans, and to interpret and implement university policies and procedures in the areas of student enrollment and evaluation. We are searching for staff who can find ways to continue to improve some of the fastest-growing graduation rates in the nation. A successful candidate for this position must be dedicated to encouraging student success with high attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.

Examples of duties include:

  • Advises prospective and current students about academic requirements and selection of courses using advising systems and technologies.
  • Disseminates information on university policies and procedures to faculty, parents, students, etc.
  • Maintains students' files that are updated throughout their academic careers and makes changes to records as necessary.
  • Analyzes and processes requests for readmission from academic exclusion and financial aid reinstatements; provides retention services for students who are part of the Academic Improvement Program.
  • May assist in conducting orientation sessions for groups of incoming students.
  • Audits student records for curriculum, major, and graduation requirements.
  • Evaluates and determines transfer credits; research course descriptions to determine transferability.
  • Compares transcripts with entrance and graduation requirements and advises students on appropriate actions.
  • Refers students with academic discrepancies to proper officials for further action.
  • Assists in the preparation of special reports relating to enrollment and related matters.
  • Evaluates and maintains student records for degree requirements using an academic evaluation system.
  • Monitors student registration activities and academic performance/progress.
  • Coordinates communications to students regarding course scheduling, core and major requirements, academic resources, etc.
  • Determines award recipients based on academic performance.
  • Reviews course adjustment forms and petitions for readmission of students.
  • Processes applications for state certifications, etc.
  • Monitors and tracks the retention, progression, and graduation of all students within the assigned population.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

We will hire multiple advisors from this announcement for the Atlanta Downtown, Dunwoody and Online campus (which is housed on the Clarkston campus).

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

  • Preference may be given to those with a Bachelor's degree and one year of experience working with student retention or student affairs programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience presenting to groups or with group facilitation
  • Experience following up on problems until resolution.

Shift: M-F 8:30AM-5:15PM

Salary: $42,000
