Are you local to Stourbridge or surrounding areas? Are you looking for an opportunity to learn new skills and inspire the next generation? Join our team as a Youth Leader with Stour Valley Network!

Youth Leaders work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units. By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will allow you to teach young people how to save lives. Youth Leaders help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be. Together with the team of other Youth Helpers and Youth Leaders, you will deliver activities, sessions, and games, as well as supervise and support young people in your groups.

Youth sessions occur weekly. Cadets (aged 10-17) meet on a Wednesday evening with sessions from 18:30 to 20:00. Youth Leaders would be expected to attend the majority of these sessions to ensure that we have sufficient leaders to provide our young people with reliable, regular training.

We will run multiple selection events (either in-person or online depending on the number of applicants and team capacity) throughout the selection and interview period for this role (23/02/2025 - 15/04/2025). We will contact you with provisional interview dates if your application is successful, but please include your availability in your application (for example, if you are only available on certain days of the week).

For a small commitment of your time, you will get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride from knowing that you are delivering an essential service which impacts you, the young people, and your community.

Pursuing the role

  • Application: Fill out an application form online to register your interest.
  • Interview: We will invite you for a friendly chat to get to know you better and see how your skills and passion align with working with young people.
  • Recruitment checks: To keep everyone safe, we will need to run right-to-volunteer checks, an enhanced DBS check, and other screening such as requesting two references.
  • Get started: You will meet the team again and the people you are going to be volunteering with, start your training, and begin making an impact!

Closing date for these opportunities is: 15/04/2025.

If you would like to know more about volunteering or would just like to chat to someone who does, get in touch. Please contact the hiring manager, Kirsty Richens, via emailing: Kirsty.Richens@sja.org.uk.
