There is an opportunity at Mallaig Lifeboat Station for a Station Technician/Senior Station Technician to join the team. This role is suitable for someone with strong mechanical expertise, resilience, leadership, and management skills, as well as the ability to keep Mallaig Lifeboat in perfect operational order.

Your role:
The Senior Station Technician role is aimed at individuals with an NVQ L4/SVQ L5 in an engineering discipline, a time-served engineering apprenticeship, or a solid background and experience in mechanical, electrical, or electronic engineering. If you do not hold these qualifications or experience, suitable individuals may be offered a Station Technician role instead.
In either role, most of your time will be spent ensuring that the Severn Class All Weather lifeboat is maintained in optimal condition. You will also oversee the day-to-day functions of the Lifeboat Station and be involved in training volunteer crew members to ensure preparedness for emergency responses.
Your role will include:
- Inspiring and motivating your team; supporting their development, conducting shore-based training, identifying improvement opportunities, and sharing your knowledge.
- Engaging with the public about your station’s work.
- Leading on Quality, Safety, Health, and Environment issues, fostering a positive safety culture.
- Managing daily operations of the Lifeboat Station, including handling emails, maintaining records, and collaborating with the Operations Team.
About you:
You will be skilled at building effective relationships with volunteers, supporters, and RNLI staff, acting as an ambassador for the station and the RNLI community. You should already hold or be willing to attain the necessary qualifications and competencies for this role. To be considered for the Station Technician/Senior Station Technician role at Mallaig Lifeboat Station, you will need:
- Experience in operation, maintenance, and repair of marine diesel engines, with a solid engineering background.
- Leadership and management qualities, with the ability to motivate and develop others.
- The potential to be qualified as an RNLI ALB Afloat Mechanic.
- Experience as a Lifeboat Mechanic or similar role, with willingness to develop skills in other seagoing duties.
