Here at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, we are proud to provide expert, compassionate care for our local population. We are ranked as the third in the country for research, embedding education and training across the organisation. Our main hub is the Queen Alexandra Hospital, which is one of the largest hospitals on the south coast employing over 8,700 staff. Our patients come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds because it makes our hospital stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for getting it right for patients, colleagues, and our community, you will find a home at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty hand and wrist interest who is passionate about the delivery of care and who enjoys working with like-minded clinicians who share in this vision. Whether you are looking for your first Consultant post or are an experienced Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant, we have much to offer, with ample opportunity and encouragement to pursue research, improvement projects, teaching, and supervision.

The successful candidate will join 28 other Consultants, 1 Specialty Doctor, 1 Associate Specialist and 33 Resident Doctors and will be responsible for the management of Trauma and Orthopaedic patients along our care pathways and will be part of a team managing acute trauma lists, trauma meetings, fracture clinics, and regular Multidisciplinary team meetings. They will be required to contribute to a 1 in 16 on-call rota. Full ranges of trauma and elective services are provided. The Orthopaedic surgeons work in close association with the Southampton University Hospital Trust which is our Major Trauma Centre.

Virtual fracture clinics are held every day and face to face fracture clinics run Monday to Friday all day. These are preceded by a trauma round where cases admitted during the previous night requiring surgery are assessed and their management determined. The trauma list takes place in dedicated theatres every day with a second trauma list Monday to Friday. At present there are five further sub-speciality trauma lists during the week on various days. Joint clinics are held monthly between individual Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Consultant Rheumatologists. The Complex Combined Hand clinic runs every month to discuss complex and interesting cases. A supportive Hand Therapy team is onsite attending monthly meetings for continuity of care.

At the core of our culture is the value we place on our workforce; their skills, knowledge, experience and contribution to the communities we serve. We are proud to offer our staff more than just a job - we offer them an opportunity to be part of a dynamic organisation striving for excellence, which provides its staff members with benefits and support throughout their lives and careers.
