Student Safety Engagement Officer

We are seeking a Student Safety Engagement Officer to join our team!

Working Pattern: Full time (37 hrs per week) and 52 weeks per year

Salary: up to £29,163 (dependent on qualifications and experience)

Location: Sparsholt Campus (Winchester)

The Role

You will be supporting us to create a safe and secure environment for students and staff, fostering a welcoming and secure atmosphere for everyone. The role involves ensuring the safety and positive experience of students, staff, and visitors on the Sparsholt campus.

Daily responsibilities include interacting with students and staff, utilizing problem-solving skills to manage incidents and events. This involves liaising internally with academic, pastoral, wellbeing, and premises teams, and externally with relevant outside bodies as necessary.

We seek a confident individual with excellent communication skills, preferably with previous experience working with students or young adults. Regular training in negotiation, de-escalation, and restraint techniques is required. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to remain calm under pressure, prioritize tasks effectively, and take all necessary steps to safeguard our community.

• Manage student behaviour and de-escalate challenging situations to ensure a safe and positive environment.
• Engage with students to identify support needs and build constructive relationships to promote wellbeing and participation in college activities.
• Support safety and security protocols on campus, including ID card/lanyard checks, traffic control, CCTV monitoring, and stop and search procedures.
• Assist with safeguarding and health and safety protocols, including first aid and emergency procedures.
• Refer student welfare or disciplinary matters to the relevant team for follow-up.
