About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher to join our Autism Team as part of Nottingham City SEND support services (ISS) from September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The role involves working within a well-established specialist team supporting settings to meet the needs of autistic children, young people, and their families. The team collaborates with the wider SEND support service and other local authority provisions such as health and social care. The Autism team comprises specialist teachers and transition support workers.

We are seeking someone highly motivated and experienced, capable of working in partnership with schools, settings, and families to promote achievement, inclusion, and independence of autistic children and young people across Nottingham.

The successful candidate should have up-to-date knowledge of autism and all areas of SEND, along with an understanding of evidence-based interventions to improve curriculum access and inclusion. Experience of working directly with schools to foster a whole-school approach to inclusion and improving educational outcomes is essential. Knowledge and experience of the Autism Education Trust (AET) framework and education programmes are desirable, as is an additional qualification in the field of SEND.

This fixed-term post is available from September 2025 to August 2026, with the possibility of extension. A secondment would be considered. The role is term-time only, in accordance with teachers\’ terms and conditions.

About You:

  • Teacher qualification (QTS)
  • Whole class teaching experience of several years
  • Experience working with autistic children and young people
  • Experience working with educational providers and in system change/school improvement, including delivering CPD (preferable)
  • Understanding of inclusive education principles
  • Knowledge and experience of evidence-based interventions for autistic children and young people

For an informal discussion, please contact Autism Team Leader Lindsay McCalla.
