As a Senior Scientist working in the Antibody Platform team, you will provide expertise in multi-specific antibodies and antibody-related technologies to drive in-house innovation and further advance Immunocore’s technologies and multi-specific platforms. This is an exciting technology-focused role, so innovation and execution are key factors for success. Working within the Antibody Platform team, you will provide scientific and technical laboratory expertise relating to antibody discovery, isolation, production, engineering, and optimisation.

With our successful launch in 2022 of the world’s first TCR-based medicine, KIMMTRAK, which is also the first launched treatment for any solid tumour, you will be joining us at the most exciting time in our history, and be part of a team that values innovation, trust, and collaboration.

  • Provide deep scientific and technical expertise in antibody research, including antibody fragments such as scFv and VHH, bispecifics, and multi-specifics.
  • Design and production of multi-specific antibody-based molecules, establishing robust expression, purification, and characterisation strategies.
  • Antibody fragment discovery via in vitro platforms such as phage display, library construction, selection, and screening.
  • Engineering of antibody fragments, including affinity maturation, format optimisation, and developability approaches.
  • Identify and work up innovative antibody technologies that will benefit our multi-specific discovery pipeline.
  • Analyse, interpret and effectively communicate plans and findings at departmental, project, and leadership team meetings, providing go/no-go recommendations.
  • Independently plan, design, and execute experimental projects of diverse scope, troubleshooting problems and providing recommendations on next steps.
  • Contribute to peer-reviewed publications, patents, and international conferences.
  • Contribute to internal and external collaborations.
  • Provide technical training to team members where required.
  • Ensure own work, and work of peers, follows Good Laboratory Practice, and adheres to Immunocore health and safety policies.

Person Specification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Strong experience in molecular biology and advanced protein expression and purification techniques e.g. PCR, antibody V-gene cloning, antibody expression & purification in bacterial and/or mammalian systems.
  • Experience in protein biophysical characterisation methods such as SPR or BLI.
  • Experience in acting as technical lead on project teams, explaining complex concepts to key stakeholders.
  • Track record of identifying, evaluating, and making recommendations on new technologies to pursue.
  • Track record of solving scientific problems creatively.
  • Track record of collaborating and contributing as a project team member.
  • Effective communication of scientific concepts and findings.

Desirable

  • Experience in engineering and evaluation of multi-specific antibody formats.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and optimising expression and purification of complex antibody-based molecules.
  • Knowledge of biologics drug discovery.
  • Experienced in the use of automation e.g., colony picking, liquid handlers.
