Reporting to the Head of Compliance, Health & Safety, this post has professional responsibility for health and safety across the business, providing specialist and professional advice to staff, contractors, and managers on matters relating to health and safety. Proactively supporting the business with the management and delivery of change, encouraging innovation in safe working and staff engagement through regular and effective communication, staff briefing, and building relationships at all levels to ensure health and safety is implemented and managed correctly.

The successful candidate will support the risk and operational groups that monitor compliance with policies and procedures, review incident data, and inform changes that support a continuous cycle of improvement. The Health, Safety and Risk Manager will work on the interface between health and safety and operational functions and will be accountable for the delivery of efficient, effective, and customer-focused services to meet statutory responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and subsequent amendments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Head of Compliance, Health & Safety in leading the modernisation, process re-engineering, and development of the health and safety agenda in line with best practice to integrate and embed health and safety structure and culture across the organisation.
  • Be an expert on health & safety matters, providing advice, guidance, facilitation, and practical support to a wide range of staff and assurance to the Board through the Health and Safety Group and Governance and Compliance Committee.
  • Compile and regularly review all risks pertaining to the health & safety function, providing direction and guidance to the SMT and Exec on safe best practices and measures to minimise the impact of associated risks.
  • Support and review the governance structure that ensures all health and safety processes and procedures are fully auditable, compliant with Group policy, and are fully risk assessed and safely delivered within statutory requirements, using controlled processes where stakeholders are fully engaged in the process design, use, and review.
  • Ensure appropriate and up-to-date Group-wide health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with national and legislative requirements.
  • Lead and actively manage the health & safety agenda and assist the Head of Compliance, Health & Safety with the implementation of the health and safety strategy.
  • Regularly review health and safety incidents to include RIDDORS, write reviews, disseminate information with a focus on organisational learning and change to practice, ensuring actions are completed.
  • Oversee the provision of health and safety input into all new projects.
  • Identify and refer key health & safety issues, particularly those with political sensitivities, for decision to the Head of Compliance, Health & Safety.
  • Prepare the health and safety report and updates for the Board, clients, and partners.
