Development is just cool, right? It goes from lines of code on a screen to an interactive piece, either on an application or on a website. We’ve come a long way from how we started and there is no field where making cool things that function well is more pressing and relevant than in e-Commerce. Ever since the dark age of 2020, retailers of all types have really woken up to the need for an effective e-Commerce platform. But most retailers don’t have the skills to make something that aligns with their brand, their vision, or that can make the journey for their customer the best experience they could want.
Who are we?
We’re Quickfire Digital - an Award-winning eCommerce focused development agency, specialising in Shopify builds. We’re a busy agency with ambitious growth plans and a customer base that ranges from traditional retailers who require a complete management service through to some properly weird and wonderful businesses who want a seamless way to get people to buy their products.
What is the job?
We are looking for someone who wants to go beyond just grinding out code. Our developers are very involved in discussing our projects and progress with clients. You will be building websites on Shopify, and we are also diversifying into application development and a few other fun areas when the project is right for the studio.
In a nutshell though, your duties and responsibilities will be:
- Website builds for Shopify / Shopify Plus platforms.
- Assisting the Development team with all aspects of software design and coding.
- Attending and contributing to company development meetings.
- Engaging with clients, communicating what we need from them to progress to the next stage of the various projects you’d be working on.
- Learning the codebase and improving your coding skills.
- Writing and maintaining code.
- Must provide code documentation with your work.
- Working on bug fixes.
- Responding to requests from the head of development and/or project management team to provide estimations and project milestone updates.
- Occasionally rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck into our internal projects.
Who are we looking for?
Our absolute ideal would be an experienced agency developer who has demonstrable full stack experience, used to the pace of working in a successful team and who is looking to make a step up in a senior role in their career, or is already at a senior level wanting to go further. This is unfortunately not the role for a junior developer at this point, so we do need to see demonstrable working experience. If you’ve been a solid front end developer for a few years and you’ve recently been dabbling in the full stack, we’d love to hear from you. If you’ve been an in-house full stack dev seeking diversity in your projects and wanting to try out an agency, this could be a match.
Essentially, we need a good, effective and competent developer who can hit the ground running and add some value, as this is a growth role for us due to some recent project wins and some accounts expanding.
In terms of some high level information though, we’re after:
- Extensive knowledge of front-end coding languages including CSS, HTML, and JavaScript is essential.
- Familiarity with Vue.js or React is a plus, though not mandatory.
- Proficiency in Shopify Liquid is important, but it is a relatively easy language to learn.
- Experience with PHP, Laravel and MySQL is essential - we have also recently used Node.js so knowledge of this is a positive.
- Proficient in working with REST and GraphQL APIs.
- Knowledge of database table design and infrastructure, including implementation best practices.
- Experience with data transposition, migration, and integration processes.
- Previous experience working in an agency environment is beneficial, though experience in a fast-paced development setting with multiple projects and varying stages of completion is equally valuable.
- Ability to work in a collaborative team setting with varying levels of expertise and under tight deadlines.
- Adaptability to a sprint-based environment is key for success and job satisfaction.
- Familiarity with working with wikis, using tools like Slack and the G-Suite and time tracking software.
What’s in it for you?
We cannot pay huge salaries, but we can offer you:
- A genuinely competitive salary for the Norfolk tech scene.
- Hybrid working (3 in office, 2 at home- but we can negotiate upon completion of your probation!) in a non-corporate environment.
- The opportunity to travel, attend company events and get out visiting clients.
- Free parking on site, and an office location that’s super convenient for commutes.
- Enhanced holiday entitlement.
- Private medical cover.
- Company pension scheme.
- A bustling social events calendar, and an office environment rammed with treats.
- Half-yearly salary reviews, with regular reward and incentives.
- Financial bonuses in addition at Christmas if we’ve had a good year.
- The best biscuit drawer in all of Norfolk.
What is our interview process?
It’s really simple. A chat with our Head of People, followed by a competency interview with our Head of Development and one of our Senior Developers. A final stage interview with one of our co-founders, including a potential technical assessment. Then we offer. You say yes.
PS- we cannot and do not offer Visa sponsorship at this time. Please be aware of this upon application.
