Laboratory Research Associate in Environmental Biogeochemistry Duke University, Civil and Environmental Engineering Position ID: Duke -Civil and Environmental Engineering -AIR_HSUKIM [#29648] Position Title: Laboratory Research Associate Position Location: Durham, North Carolina 27708, United States of America Subject Area: Civil and Environmental Engineering / Environmental Engineering Application Deadline: none (posted 2025/01/24) Position Description: A Laboratory Research Associate position is available in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. The Research Associate will assist with a variety of laboratory research projects to include topics on: 1) Biogeochemical transformations of mercury in soils; 2) Environmental exposures of metal pollutants; and 3) Geochemical speciation of critical metals in geological wastes. The Associate will perform chemical testing of soil and water samples, assist with soil incubation studies, participate in discussions of research planning, and contribute to the data analysis and reporting. The position is a full-time one year position starting March 1, 2025, and will remain open until filled. Candidates should have a Bachelor\’s degree, or preferably a Master\’s or PhD degree in environmental engineering, environmental biogeochemistry, or a related field. Qualified candidates should have interests in environmental biogeochemistry, experience working in a chemistry laboratory, and strong skills in project management, communication, and teamwork. Prior educational coursework in environmental chemistry, environmental microbiology, and ecosystem science is desired. Highly qualified candidates would have prior research experience with chemical analyses in water and soil, trace element mass spectrometry, and/or metal speciation analyses with X-ray spectroscopy methods.
