Qualifications:

• Two years of college education, preferably in Early Childhood Education.
• Completion of Protecting God's Children Child Abuse Seminar.
• Practicing Catholic with knowledge of the Catholic Faith and teachings of the Catholic Church.
• Willing to consider the education of children and their parents as a way of serving the church.
• Knowledge of sound educational programs for young children (ages and stages) recognising children's needs at social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual levels.
• Warm and friendly personality, recognising each person as a unique individual.
• Genuine desire to work with children.
• Able to work with co-professionals in planning and implementing educational programs.
• Punctual - arrives no later than designated time on Teacher Agreement to assist the Lead Teacher in classroom preparations.
• Presents an appropriate and professional image (manner, dress, written and verbal communication).

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist the Lead Teacher in room preparation and curriculum implementation throughout the school year.
• Support curriculum based on the school's philosophy and children's needs and interests, utilising developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, physical, and educational needs.
• Greet children upon arrival and show genuine interest and warmth to each child.
• Communicate in a gentle, quiet, calm yet firm voice.
• Send clear and direct messages in a positive manner.
• Use positive techniques for guidance, including redirection and positive reinforcement.
• Guide the expression of feelings in an appropriate way.
• Listen to and converse frequently with children, asking open-ended questions.
• Show respect for children by addressing each by name and modelling acceptance of all children.
• Establish and/or reinforce realistic age-appropriate goals and objectives for children.
• Emphasise process rather than product in the use of art media.
• Provide an environment fostering autonomy, independence, and responsibility.
• Encourage children to develop activities in their own way.
• Encourage participation in group activities while respecting preferences for solitary play.
• Help children acquire and use language.
• Stay alert to the total group even when dealing with a part of it.
• Establish and maintain a reasonable system of limits.
• Involve children in solving classroom problems and conflicts.
• Provide a balance of gross and fine motor activities.
• Provide a balance of individual, small, and large group activities.
• Consider the outdoors as part of the learning environment.
• Ensure regular involvement in science activities.

Job Requirements:

• Support multiple classrooms in a Catholic early childhood program by assisting teachers, supervising children, and promoting a safe, nurturing, faith-based environment.
• Assist with arrival, dismissal, classroom activities, and supervision in gym/playground/restroom areas.
• Substitute as needed and support students requiring individual attention.
• Foster social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development using developmentally appropriate practices.
• Maintain a positive, respectful classroom presence and communicate effectively with staff and families.
• Ensure child safety and assist with daily routines and transitions.

Qualifications:

• 2 years of college; ECE experience preferred.
• Completion of Protecting God's Children training.
• Practicing Catholic with understanding of the faith.
• Warm, flexible, professional, and collaborative.
• Must pass TB test and background requirements.
