What is the role?

You will be leading and delivering an elite-level Sports Science and Strength & Conditioning programme for the Girls’ Academy, encompassing the Pro-Game Academy (PGA) and Emerging Talent Centre (ETC). Primarily responsible for the U21s squad, there will be opportunities to work closely with the Lead Athletic Performance Coach (Women’s First Team) to establish a Sports Science department recognised as a centre of excellence in female athlete development.

What will you be doing?

  • You will implement evidence-based Sports Science and Strength & Conditioning programmes aligned with the strategic objectives of the Girls’ Academy, Pro-Game Academy (PGA), and Emerging Talent Centre (ETC) whilst leading in the creation and regular updating of individual athlete development plans, ensuring they reflect best practice in youth and female athlete development.
  • By collaborating effectively within the interdisciplinary team (IDT) you will design, deliver, and review comprehensive periodised training and performance programmes tailored to squad and individual athlete requirements, alongside working closely with medical personnel to develop and deliver integrated injury prevention strategies and rehabilitation programmes to optimise player availability and performance.
  • You will need to establish and maintain communication channels with international teams, facilitating effective sharing of player-related performance and medical information for cohesive player care and development.

Other duties include:

  • Design and deliver educational workshops and informal learning opportunities focused on athletic development, injury prevention, recovery strategies, and overall performance enhancement for players, staff, and parents.
  • Manage accurate and comprehensive athlete performance records, including athlete wellness, readiness assessments, training load, match data, and periodic performance testing to inform targeted athletic development interventions.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and guidance to junior Sports Science and Strength & Conditioning staff, fostering continuous professional development and contributing to departmental excellence.
  • Support the Women’s First Team in delivering on-field conditioning, training preparation, and gym-based sessions as required.

Is this you?

Essential Qualifications:

  • BSc in Sport Science S&C or related subject
  • FA Level 2 Emergency First Aid Certificate
  • FA Safeguarding Certificate

Desirable Qualifications:

  • UKSCA, NSCA etc. accreditation (or ability to attain within 12 months).

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience of working with long-term athletic development programmes.
  • Practical coaching & programming of age-appropriate physical development.
  • Working within IDT Sport Science and Sports Medicine teams.
  • Working with Medical staff in long-term rehab processes.
  • Knowledge on the stages of growth & maturation, as well as the impact of maturation on physical development, and subsequent interventions.
  • Collection, application and reporting of player monitoring systems i.e., GPS.
  • Build effective relationships with players and key stakeholders.
  • Ability to track, monitor and report health and wellness.
  • Design and lead on return to play processes.
