An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join us as a Ward Manager to lead our passionate and supportive acute Stroke Team on our 28 bedded Stroke Unit. The Stroke Unit has a well-established multi-disciplinary approach to stroke care, with extensive cross boundary working to ensure patients receive personalised and expert care. You will need to demonstrate proven, excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and motivate others. Most importantly, be as driven as we are about delivering high quality care to those who have suffered a stroke or other neurological or medical condition. We are seeking a highly skilled individual who holds current or prior knowledge, training, and experience as a ward manager.

Responsibilities:

  • To manage ward effectively and safely, dealing with the daily operational pressures.
  • To ensure high standards of care are given in relation to agreed standards, policies and procedures of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.
  • To facilitate a learning environment to ensure all staff on the ward have the appropriate skills/knowledge and support, identified by regular staff appraisal and annual personal development plan.
  • To foster an environment that focuses on maximising patients' independence where possible and utilises a wide range of meaningful activity to support this, including creating a safe space for patients to freely move around the ward.
  • To be proactive with complex discharges, ensuring they are safe and that discharge is at the earliest opportunity.

Care to join us - Our Stroke service works closely with the Healthcare of Older Person team and the service is Consultant led, both medical and nursing. Within the nursing team, there is a dedicated Stroke Nurse Specialist service who outreach to support the front door with acute presentations. Communicating and co-ordinating with our community-based Stroke Rehabilitation Team is key, as is communication with our health and social care teams with the aim of supporting patients to live as independently as possible.
