The Royal Yachting Association, based in Hamble, near Southampton, is the national governing body for all forms of recreational, competitive, and professional boating. It represents dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sportsboats, windsurfing, inland cruising, and personal watercraft.

The role of the Training Schemes Administrator is to support the work of the RYA Chief Instructor, ensuring the efficient administration of the RYA Schemes (Power, Sailing, Windsurfing, Wing), and assisting other administrators as required. You will work closely with other Training Scheme Administrators who support the Power, Dinghy, and Windsurfing schemes, the Sail/Motor Cruising, and the Shorebased schemes. Day to day workload is self-driven in consultation with the Chief Instructor.
Your responsibilities as a Training Scheme Administrator will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide support, including diary management, to the Chief Instructor, and ensure the smooth running of the RYA Training schemes.
- Respond to general and technical enquiries concerning the RYA training schemes and the wider Training Department.
- Provide information and guidance to members of the public to choose appropriate training.
- Respond to enquiries from RYA Instructors and provide information to assist with the delivery of the RYA training schemes.
- Deal with complaints and tackle and investigate non-registration of certificates.
- Respond to and process medical referrals.
- Organise (including budgeting) and attend where necessary, annual Conferences.
- Organise and administrate RYA Trainer revalidation, selection, and courses, including liaising with training team staff and their requirements.
- Collate information on instructor courses.
- Provide administrative assistance on projects with external partners including Duke of Edinburgh, MAIB, and MCA.
- Update and inform Instructors/Examiners/Principals of developments and initiatives within the training schemes.
- Represent RYA Training at national Boat Shows.
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Experience: Proven experience in an administrative role, ideally in a high-volume environment.
- Knowledge: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). A general understanding of sailing and motor boating is desirable but not essential.
- Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with accurate spelling and grammar. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively, prioritise tasks, and work under pressure.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively within a team while also being self-motivated and proactive.
- Qualifications: Educated to A-level standard or equivalent.
Desirable:
- Experience in organising conferences or events.
- Knowledge of the RYA Training Schemes.
- Office work-related NVQ or similar qualifications.
