John Sisk & Son has an opportunity for a Design Manager or a seasoned Design Manager ready to advance to a Senior Design Manager role, within the growing Life Science & Technology sector. As a Design Manager, you will lead the delivery of effective design across multiple projects or a large-scale project. You will oversee pre-construction and construction design processes, liaising with clients, vendors, the design team, and other stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards. This role involves client-facing responsibilities and requires engaging with a broad range of stakeholders. Travel within regional locations is expected, with work between sites, offices, and clients’ premises.

Responsibilities

  • Understand contractual procurement routes and administration, including D&B, EPCM, EPC, JCT, and NEC contracts.
  • Have knowledge of life science technologies, equipment, instrumentation, vendor engagement, and workflows.
  • Familiarity with design stage plans such as RIBA, FEL, AEC, and associated workflows.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Identify and resolve design and technical issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage and mentor design teams, fostering skills development.
  • Lead pre-construction design processes and ensure design information is accurate, complete, and compliant.
  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement in design management practices.
  • Ensure design activities align with company values and client requirements.
  • Manage consultancies, information, and change control processes.
  • Ensure legislative and client compliance of designs.
  • Mentor junior design staff.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of LST procurement routes, contractual administration, and design workflows.
  • Background in architectural or MEP engineering with a good understanding of the other discipline.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Construction, Engineering, or related fields.
