Summary: Novartis is committed to Global Health, focusing on communicable diseases like malaria and non-communicable diseases. Historically, Novartis has supported sickle cell disease (SCD) care for over 50 years, developing chelators for iron overload management. Despite increased treatment options, access remains limited, with high childhood mortality rates in Africa for infants with SCD. Novartis BioMedical Research (BR) drives innovation across the company, focusing on new technologies for therapeutic breakthroughs. Translational Medicine (TM), a part of BR, involves about 900 associates globally, bridging research and clinical application to bring new medicines to patients. The TM Discovery & Profiling (TMDP) team advances science from discovery to patient care, overseeing early-phase clinical trials and supporting later-stage development. TM experts collaborate across disciplines to identify disease targets and develop clinical strategies, playing a critical role in drug development at Novartis.

As a TM Expert for Global Health, you will work with senior colleagues to develop strategies for drug development projects and lead cross-functional teams globally. This role requires a hybrid work model, with on-site presence at the Westworks London office three days a week.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify, develop, and implement preclinical strategies aligned with program objectives, including assessing medical needs and reviewing data for clinical implications.
  • Lead global project teams through early development phases.
  • Manage clinical aspects of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) up to the Transition Decision Point (TDP).
  • Act as medical monitor for clinical studies.
  • Communicate clinical matters within project teams and decision boards.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders on development approaches.
  • Evaluate clinical sites and maintain communication with investigators.
  • Oversee publication and presentation of clinical results.
  • Develop biomarker strategies in collaboration with experts.
  • Participate in health authority meetings as a TM Expert.
Essential Requirements:
  • MD with subspecialty training in Hematology or Pediatrics, preferably with Sickle Cell expertise; additional PhD or postdoctoral research and board certification are advantageous.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in pharma, biotech, CRO, or academic medical centers; 5+ years for Director level.
  • Strong interest and experience in Global Health.
  • Recognized medical and scientific expertise with significant contributions to the field.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Innovative mindset with a passion for scientific discovery.
  • Additional experience in data science is a plus.
