We are seeking an experienced and motivated Software Testing Team Leader to oversee and guide our testing team to ensure the delivery of high-quality software products. The successful candidate will lead testing strategy, coordinate test planning and execution, and collaborate closely with development and product teams to drive continuous improvement in testing processes.

M-AIS is a small, focused aviation software company based in the centre of Edinburgh, we have clients around the world but work mainly in the UK and Central Europe. We have been working in the field for 20 years and the position is being offered due to the retirement of a long-term staff member. The role will be challenging as the company has been moving to SAFe AGILE practices and cloud-based CI/CD requiring automated testing practices for the latest workflows. Ideally, the successful candidate will have the necessary experience and be able and motivated to keep us moving in that direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of software testers to deliver comprehensive test coverage across multiple projects.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain testing strategies, plans, and processes aligned with overall project and business objectives.
  • Coordinate and prioritize testing activities to ensure timely and effective defect detection and resolution.
  • Collaborate closely with software developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define acceptance criteria and quality goals.
  • Oversee both manual and automated testing efforts, including functional, regression, performance, and security testing.
  • Drive continuous improvement of test automation frameworks, tools, and methodologies.
  • Monitor and report on test progress, metrics, and quality status to senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies related to software quality assurance.
  • Facilitate risk assessment and mitigation related to software releases.
  • Lead root cause analysis for critical defects and guide corrective action.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in software testing, including at least 2 years in a leadership or team lead role.
  • Strong understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) and software testing life cycle (STLC).
  • Proven expertise in test planning, design, execution, and defect management.
  • Experience with test automation tools.
  • Solid knowledge of manual testing techniques and defect tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Bugzilla or similar).
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing testing team.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working in Agile and/or DevOps environments.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of performance and security testing principles is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) Certification (Foundation or Advanced Level).
  • Relevant degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience with Worldwide, European or UK-specific regulatory standards or sectors (Aviation, Defence) is advantageous.
  • A Degree may not be necessary if relevant and extensive experience can be demonstrated.
