EEG Technician

Job Overview:

The EEG Technician performs standard and complex studies including electrocerebral recordings and Isoelectric tracings, following the minimal technical standards of the American EEG Society.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• At least one year of experience in EEG or Polysomnographic studies
• At least one year of experience in a healthcare-related setting within a hospital or physicians\’ office

Preferred:

• Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (R.EEG.T)

Certifications and Licenses:

• BLS Certification (American Heart Association)

Scheduling Requirements:

• Day or evening shift work
• At least 4 shifts per month preferred
• Per Diem (PD)

Essential Functions:

• Transport patients to testing areas and explain procedures to reduce anxiety
• Transport and set up equipment for bedside studies, explaining procedures to patients/parents
• Calibrate, adjust, and maintain equipment and work area in a safe, clean condition
• Maintain routine upkeep of EEG and EMG equipment, notifying management of major repairs
• Ensure sufficient supply inventory
• Apply electrodes using the 10-20 International Electrode Placement System and verify their performance
• Select electrode configurations appropriate to each case
• Maintain logs of testing and patient information
• Complete clerical tasks related to EEG and EMG procedures, including filing and report distribution
• Enter charges/credits into the computer system
• Obtain recordings, recognize artifacts, and eliminate them as needed
• Describe abnormal clinical manifestations observed during tests
• Follow safety protocols and attend mandatory training sessions annually
• Practice Universal Precautions consistently
• Utilize activation procedures like hyperventilation, photic stimulation, and sleep
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the department manager
