The predicted salary is between 43200 - 72000 £ per year.
The successful candidate must have experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager from the utilities, high voltage power, electricity or renewable energy sectors. A full UK driving licence is required along with the willingness to travel if necessary. A highly attractive permanent salary and full benefits package is on offer for the successful candidate, which includes a fully expensed company car or car allowance, 10% bonus, company pension and healthcare scheme plus some hybrid working. Commutable distance is required to our clients Northeast and Northwest offices.
This role is responsible for leading the visibility of contractual and financial risks to construction project bids at the front-end stage, whilst also providing commercial and contractual guidance to preconstruction feasibility, coupled with holistic cost input and management of infrastructure projects during the in-situ and close out phases.
The Role
- Accountable for ensuring the preparation of contract documents for civil and HV electrical engineering works, including responsibility for ensuring bills of quantities and cost analysis are produced every month.
- Responsible for establishing client requirements with the Project and Design Teams, then driving presentations to the Senior Board for formal approval.
- Manage the delivery of pre-contract services across the business, providing consistent formulated cost plans for individual projects and managing appropriate budgeting via the commercial team.
- Ensure contractual arrangements are selected, adhered to and variations managed efficiently.
- Work in partnership with the delivery teams to understand project requirements, including all contract management and administration.
- Produce monthly performance reports against key measures, targets, risks and opportunities.
- Oversee pre-contract interpretation to assess potential risk to bids.
- Forecast and control spend on projects under NEC Contracts in the utilities sector.
- Implement key measures and own your commercial practices in line with the company processes.
- Outline potential risks, proposing suitable mitigation, and administer in line with company process.
- Evaluate supply chain tenders to ensure that cost effective solutions are delivered.
- Provide all necessary financial information required to ensure performance targets are met.
- Drive business performance through continuous improvements in how commercial contracts are managed which align to the business plan, introducing improved or new processes if required.
- Management and delivery of commercial business processes and drive the team accordingly.
- Work with post-contract services at the appropriate level within the defined business area ensuring a high-level of commercial assurance is always maintained.
- Configuration and management of framework contractors, ensuring their compliance to processes.
- Maintain and conform to the standards of HSE, ensuring a safe working environment for all.
- Develop high quality supply chain management structures with the relevant teams.
The Person
- Essential experience of working within NEC 4 PFC Contracts and ECC Contracts as a Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager.
- Utility or HV Electrical industry experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Analytical and able to interpret numerical data for report production.
- Working knowledge and experience of other contract terms including NEC, IET and JCT.
- Accountable for cost value construction project reporting, project management compliance, cost control and forecasting experience.
- Proven experience of managing high value, multi-disciplined projects.
- Demonstrable experience of tender analysis and ability to recognise and highlight ambiguity.
- Experience of working with framework contracts.
- Degree preferable in a relevant quantity surveying or commercial discipline with at least five years relevant experience.
- MRICS is preferable or working towards an equivalent professional qualification.
