An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Ophthalmic Technician to join our busy and fast-paced Ophthalmology Outpatient Department.

Role Overview

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will support and provide high-standard care to our patients across various sub-specialties within Ophthalmology, including Macular theatre. We seek candidates passionate about delivering excellent care and embodying the values of CHFT.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, and committed Ophthalmic Technician. We welcome forward-thinking, caring individuals dedicated to high-quality patient care. Excellent communication skills and confidence in interacting with patients, families, carers, and team members are essential.

Training and Responsibilities

You will receive appropriate training to perform specific ophthalmic investigations under supervision, including:

  • Visual Acuity assessments
  • Visual Field tests using Humphrey Field Analyser
  • Ocular Coherence Tomography and Pachymetry
  • Focimetry and Auto Refraction
  • Assist during patient consultations, angiography, and minor procedures
  • Venous cannulation and equipment sterilization
  • Coordinate registration of visually impaired patients
  • Perform administration duties supporting the Ophthalmology team

Additional Duties

Responsibilities include analyzing spectacle prescriptions, conducting visual acuity tests, instilling eye drops, assisting with patient mobility, managing patient inquiries, and ensuring equipment maintenance and supply ordering. You will also record patient data accurately and support communication with patients and other healthcare professionals.

Patient Cohort and Communication

Testing will involve a diverse patient cohort, including the elderly, children, and those with complex needs or communication barriers. Demonstrating effective communication skills to ensure patient understanding and compliance is vital.

Other Responsibilities

Maintaining clinical instruments and updating patient information records. Supporting the administration of the Orthoptic and Optometry departments. Supporting the maintenance and ordering of supplies.
