Job Overview: NBT pharmacy are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic team member to join their nationally recognised Pre-Op Surgery team. This part-time post will work alongside other MDT members to support patients manage their medications safely in the Pre and Peri-Operative period for our elective surgical specialities in Orthopaedics, Plastics, Vascular, GI surgery and Renal transplantation.
The role also involves the support and management of pharmacists providing cover to our surgical speciality wards and supporting the specialities with governance and clinical expertise. With the imminent introduction of EPMA to the hospital, we are also looking for staff interested in taking this opportunity to review and develop our services in new directions to provide excellent patient centred care.
Main duties of the job:- Responsible for the efficient and effective provision, management, and development of the appropriate clinical pharmacy service in accordance with Medicines legislation, the Code of Ethics of the GPhC, RPS hospital pharmacy standards, UKMI standards and Trust policies and procedures.
- Provides specialist clinical pharmacy services at a high level to the Pre-Op pharmacy Surgical Team.
- Teaches and supervises less experienced colleagues, pharmacists, technicians, and students.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities:- Responsible for the provision, management and development of a highly specialist pharmaceutical service to the Anaesthetics, Surgery, Critical Care and Renal (ASCR) Division to achieve a high standard of efficiency and effectiveness.
- Clinically screen prescriptions to ensure the safe, efficient, evidence-based and rational use of medicines in line with the BNSSG Formulary and departmental policies so that risks to patients are minimised.
- Contribute to the overall development of the clinical pharmacy service through active participation in relevant meetings.
- Attend consultant ward rounds and ward board rounds whenever possible to provide pharmaceutical expertise.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills across all elements of the role.
- Provide reports on the use and cost of medicines to the surgical directorate as appropriate and analyse these to advise on strategies to ensure cost-effective use of resources.
- Write relevant protocols, procedures and guidelines for use within Pre-op Surgery clinics and in surgical specialist environments.
- Ensure that an accurate medication history is obtained for each patient using the appropriate sources.
- Assist with prescribing to support pre-op patients and inpatients to enable appropriate patient flow.
- Document all major interventions made.
- Audit and risk manage selected areas of practice to promote continuous quality improvement by affecting change in practice.
Education/Training/Qualifications:
- UK registered Pharmacist
- Clinical diploma or other recognised postgraduate qualification
- Evidence of CPD
- Leadership qualification
- Qualified Independent Prescriber
Work Experience:
- UK hospital pharmacy experience
- Relevant clinical pharmacy experience
- Experience of teaching or supporting learning (e.g. mentoring, marking, etc)
- Experience of audit and quality systems
Knowledge / Skills/ Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to manage time and prioritise effectively
- Proactive approach to the application of specialist pharmaceutical knowledge in order to enhance patient care
- Ability to successfully develop knowledge in specialist area
- Relevant IT skills to ECDL level or equivalent
Personal Qualities/Special Circumstances:
- Adaptable and flexible approach to work
- Teaching / tutorial and clinical supervisory skills
- Able to work under own initiative and as part of a team
- Excellent interpersonal skills
