Our Visitor Attraction site at Lisvane and Llanishen opened in 2023, in the North of Cardiff, and is open all year round! This is an exciting opportunity for anyone wishing to join Welsh Water. The site boasts a state-of-the-art Visitor Attraction building with a 150-cover restaurant, balcony with views over both reservoirs, group and cubicle changing rooms, both land and water-based activities, education learning space, bird hides & islands, meeting rooms and a Grab & Go.
We are looking for our Senior Instructors to cover a minimum of four shifts / week each. Our operating hours are from 6.30am - 8.30pm. We require a combination of early, daytime, evening and weekend shift cover. Starting ASAP (training days to start before Easter holidays 2025 - ideally completing a couple of weekends before the season commences). Zero hours contracts but there will be work available on weekends and throughout school holidays, including the winter period.
Due to the nature of the industry, we require satisfactory references, post-offer medical clearance, and a criminal records Basic Disclosure check on all new employees joining the business. For some roles, there may be additional checks and security clearance required, and this offer is subject to all checks being satisfied.
Qualifications:
- A Watersport National Governing Body qualification (e.g. RYA Senior Instructor, British Canoeing Coach, UKCC Level 2 Coach), or be working towards one of these, along with prior experience.
Experience:
- Supervising and motivating a team.
- Managing and implementing health & safety records and procedures.
- Working with the general public.
- Delivering water or land activities to individuals and groups of different ages and abilities.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Enthusiastic about putting our customers first every day.
- Ability to work independently and on own initiative.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- IT literate – we use a variety of computer systems which we will teach you.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Your role will be to:
- Supervise activity staff; ensuring a high standard of health and safety at all times.
- Perform the role of Duty Instructor; managing activity delivery, supervising the activity team on a day-to-day basis and ensuring the site is operating in accordance with DCWW Health and Safety Management systems.
- Act as a role model for the activity team and assist with training and development of Activity Instructors and Activity Assistants.
- Ensure the safety of all persons on site, including employees, participants of land and water-based activities and members of the public.
- Follow company procedures for reporting incidents.
- Present a professional attitude and appearance at all times, maintaining an excellent level of customer service and water safety.
- Ensure maintenance, repair, security and cleanliness of all activity equipment is of a continued high standard.
- Respond to activity enquiries and group bookings professionally and in a timely manner.
- Work with the Ranger team on reservoir safety and biosecurity, and also the upkeep and tidiness of the site.
- Follow the routines for the timely opening and closing of the site.
- Support conservation, educational, public access and recreational activities, open days and events.
- Undertake any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business.
