Are you ready to dive into the exciting and innovative world of Engineered Wood? Kadant Carmanah Design has a great opportunity for a well-rounded individual within its Unionized Production team as a Millwright.
Located in Surrey, B.C. Canada, Kadant Carmanah designs and manufactures equipment for the panel and engineered wood products and sawmill industries, providing leading edge technology and equipment to optimize fiber use for the production of wood-based panels. Our products include SmartDISC stranders, SmartRING stranders, rotary debarkers, chippers, and conveying/feeding equipment.
Responsibilities
As a Millwright, you will work closely with the Production Team to assemble heavy-duty industrial parts (Bearings, Disc Brakes, Drive Assemblies) and build our machines (Ring/Disc Stranders, Chippers, Debarkers).
Applicant will be required to:
- Follow all safety rules and regulations.
- Able to work both day and afternoon shifts as required.
- Read diagrams and schematic drawings, follow instructions to assemble parts to specifications and determine work procedures.
- Assemble mechanical and heavy equipment according to drawings using hand and power tools.
- Inspect and examine equipment and machinery to detect irregularities and defects.
- Adhere to workplace safety policies and maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Perform routine maintenance and repair minor issues on the equipment.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a Millwright, preferably in a heavy manufacturing environment (Heavy Duty mechanics, Derrick hands, Ship Building, Steel Production, etc.).
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of safety protocols.
- Apprenticeship or vocational training a must.
- Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Great verbal and written skills.
- Ability to read hydraulic schematics and manuals.
- Knowledge in the installation and assembly of large bearings and gears.
- Outstanding mathematical skills and analytical abilities.
- Ability to use precision tools to take accurate measurements.
- Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items (50lbs).
- Operate 20T & 10T overhead bridge cranes in a safe manner.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deal with priority changes to meet customer demands.
- Be efficient and accurate while demonstrating time management skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of manufactured parts and best practices for heavy manufactured goods an asset.
- Lead and participate in a continuous improvement ideology, including improving procedures, quality, process flow, and efficiency.
- Be an outstanding team player and communicator. Work well with the KCD team on achieving on-time deliveries, taking direction from chargehands and production teams on daily priorities, and being flexible to frequent customer requests.
- Maintain a very clean and organized work area.
- Possess basic computer skills (MS Office), ERP experience is an asset.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
