HospitalityOnCampus is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join its kitchen team as Hospitality and Events Commis Chef. Undertaking food preparation, production and service within the HospitalityOnCampus team, the successful candidate will assist the delivery of a broad range of hospitality, events and dining across campus in support of internal and corporate business, ensuring that the agreed, highest attainable standards for hospitality and service are consistently delivered.

Working with the Head Chef, senior colleagues and the wider team, the post holder will assist with the preparation and delivery of services across the department, with a passion for quality food and high standards of hospitality, including provision for:

  • Catered conferencing and events
  • Lunch services
  • Dinners and banqueting
  • Weddings
  • Support to food-led outlets within the department

The successful application will assist with planned event deliveries to agreed timings and standards, including the running of dinner/banqueting service, fine dining and other events, working with front of house colleagues to ensure an efficient service which is to the agreed food presentation and quality standards, and which delivers the customer experience.

Applicants must have a Professional Cookery Qualifications to (minimum) City and Guilds 706/1. They must have the relevant technical culinary skills gained within a similar environment, as well as a working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations (including up to date Food Safety and Allergen Management), along with a good interpersonal team attitude and self-motivation. Good verbal and written communication skills, a natural positive attitude towards a busy/pressurised environment and the ability to work flexibly across the week to the requirements of the business is essential to this role.

This is a full-time role, working 40 hours a week across 5 days out of 7, including evenings and weekends.

HospitalityOnCampus is responsible for the provision of all hospitality, events and dining services across the university campus, including within some key, iconic venues and facilities such as Manchester Museum and Whitworth Art Gallery. With such a varied range of business across the week, the department is always a buzz of activity – no two days are ever the same. The business operates 7-days a week, accommodating events and hospitality both daytime and evenings across the week, including weekends.

Please note, under the new immigration rules this role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route of the Points Based System. Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK in order to be eligible to take up the post.
