Ophthalmic Technician

We are recruiting for an Ophthalmic Technician who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. To work as part of the ophthalmic team, delivering an unsupervised, high quality technical and specialist service. Performing visual assessments including visual acuity, visual fields, measuring intra ocular pressure. The post holder will learn how to interpret the test and report to the senior staff.

To work within all clinical areas of ophthalmology including day-care surgery, outpatient clinics across all three sites, to work within the intravitreal injection service supporting the injectors and some administrative tasks. Work collaboratively and cooperatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.

Main duties of the job:

• Performing multiple visual assessments, learning how to interpret the test and report to the senior staff.
• Achieve knowledge and skills in ophthalmology with the support of the team.
• To work within the intravitreal injection service supporting the patients and injectors, from admission through to discharge.
• To work within the ophthalmology team on the day care ward admitting and preparing patients for surgery through to their discharge.
• To process patients through the outpatient clinic sessions working with the registered nurses and wider ophthalmic team.
• Assist with clerical and administrative duties as required.
• Maintain regular contact with the senior team member and communicate all relevant issues.

Qualifications / Training:

• Qualified to operate ophthalmic equipment

Previous Experience:

• Strong clinical knowledge, good initiative, and a proactive approach to work
• Experience working in an Ophthalmic Health Care setting supporting patients and the multi-disciplinary team with a range of Ophthalmic technical skills.

Skills:

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ophthalmic technical skills.
• Visual acuity testing - such as Snellen, Logmar
• OCT
• Auto refractor

Knowledge:

• Must be able to ensure equipment is safe to use, maintaining and data archiving
• Honesty and integrity, and a caring patient-centred approach
